Biography
Dr Helena Marques holds a PhD in Economics (Newcastle University, UK), a MSc in
Economics (Catholic University Leuven, Belgium) and a BSc Hons in Economics (University of Coimbra, Portugal). Prior to joining Manchester Business School as Senior Lecturer in Economics and International Business, she lectured at Loughborough University and Newcastle University.
Research
Dr Helena Marques has published in the field of International Economics in various international journals (Review of International Economics, IMF Staff Papers, Manchester School, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Journal of Economic Surveys, Contemporary Economic Policy, Review of Development Economics, Scottish Journal of Political Economy, World Economy, Applied Economics, among others).
She has been involved in organising several scientific events. Currently is a Board Member of the INFER (International Network for Economic Research) and also the INFER International Economics Workgroup coordinator, organising the INFER Workshops in International Economics (Coimbra, June 2007; Murcia, March 2008; Romania, October 2008). Her work on trade and migration in the enlarged EU was widely discussed in the media following her paper on this subject presented at the 2004 Royal Economic Society meetings and in 2007 she collaborated with a major Economics newspaper in Portugal (Semanário Económico).
